Driving In Cote d’Ivoire
Before planning aon Driving abroad in Ivory Coast you should check the latest situation in the country on the website of your Government .Aside from the usual issues of poor roads and badly driven and sometimes unlit vehicles, a main consideration of driving abroad in Ivory Coast is how to react at unofficial or official road blocks. Unofficial road blocks are often set up as part of a political demonstration in Abidjan and particularly close to universities. They can easily switch from boisterous behaviour to violence and should be avoided, even if this means performing a U-turn at a safe distance. However, don’t ever attempt to avoid an official police or army roadblock. Vehicles attempting to turn around to avoid a police road block have been fired upon so , if in doubt whether a roadblock is official or not, you’re probably best to assume it is!
